Trovisca is our biggest vineyard and our favorite experimental field. All winemakers like to have a place where they can test new varieties or viticulture processes and this is ours.

Vines planted

Initially partially replanted in 2000, and again almost every other year since then, the 27 ha of vines we have planted in Trovisca are all divided by variety.

Grape varieties

On the lower part of the vineyards, we have 1.91 ha of Tinta Roriz (12.5%), 3.31 ha of Touriga Franca (21.8%), 3.20 ha of Touriga Nacional (21.1%), 1.15 ha of Sousão (7.6%) and 0.7 ha of Syrah (4.5%), and on the top of the property we have three white varieties, 2.47 ha of Rabigato (16.3%), 1.69 ha of Gouveio (11.1%) and 0.79 ha of Viosinho (5.1%).

Varies from the 498 meters (where the Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz and Touriga Franca are planted) up to the 602 meters (where the white varieties are planted)

- White grapes of Viosinho, Rabigato, and Gouveio used for Oscar’s white and Quevedo White Port
- Red grapes are used to refresh and balance our Vintage Ports and LBVs. They are also the main source for Oscar’s red.

Quinta da Trovisca

One and a half miles away from S. Joao da Pesqueira stands Quinta da Trovisca, 38 acres of robust vines of touriga nacional, touriga franca, sousão and tinta roriz.

January is the optimal for prune, due to the local micro-climate while the vintage is taken in the third week of September. Trovisca’s soil facilitates the production of structured, fruity wine with well-balanced acidity.

Quinta da Trovisca

A 2 Km de S. João da Pesqueira, ergue-se num alto de 500 metros a Quinta da Trovisca, do cimo da qual se vislumbram 15 jovens hectares plantados de touriga nacional, touriga franca, tinta-roriz e sousão.

Como manda o micro-clima do local, a vinha é sempre podada em Janeiro e vindimada na terceira semana de Setembro, proporcionando vinhos com boa estrutura e com uma acidez equilibrada.
