Q Grande Reserva 2018

91
Mark Squires

The 2018 Q Grande Reserva is a roughly equal blend of Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz with 13% Touriga Nacional and 4% Tinta Amarela, all aged for 12 months in one-third new French oak. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. This is sourced from Quinta da Alegria (75%) and Quinta do Mós (25%). This is the priciest of the table wines, but it’s not necessarily really more impressive than the Claudia’s Reserve Tinto or the Alegria. Of course, they all are from different vintages. Apart from qualitative issues, that puts them in a different stage of life, this being the most
developed. This holds its own and drinks well, perhaps the most elegant of the three. It is also, though, the least concentrated, the one that least expresses its fruit impressively. Still, overall, this performs well and seems to show finesse and tasty fruit on the finish. There is some firmness too, although not a lot of power. You could drink this now, but it will surely be better next year. It has enough richness to coat the palate while seeming graceful. 29th Jul 2022.
