Between September 5th to 7th is taking place in S. João da Pesqueira the VII edition of Vindouro, a Port and Douro wine fair organized by S. João da Pesqueira City Hall and also Essência do Vinho and Cryseia. In this place a total of 36 producers from Douro promote their wines. Quevedo is also present, as had been happening in the last editions.
I am currently writing from our stand, it is 10 pm and most of the visitants and also some exhibitor took a brake to have dinner. Is the perfect time to write you these lines!
This fair is a very good place to see the evolution of some young producers with very good wines, which look for their niche in this overcrowded market. From what I have been hearing, foreign markets still being the best way to sell the wines though require some expertise, language command and also a different market approach of that used for the Portuguese market.
EWBC – European Wine Bloggers Conference
The Vindouro exhibition comes one week after the I European Wine Bloggers Conference, which took place in Logroño, La Rioja. This meeting was organized by Ryan and Gabriella Opaz from Catavino and Robert MacIntosh from The Wine Conversation with the purpose “to bring together different voices from the wine blogosphere from throughout Europe and the rest of the world to drink, eat and discuss.” I was there representing Quevedo and really enjoyed a lot. The other Portuguese winery present was Cortes de Cima. It was a complete success! Really! It was an extraordinary opportunity to listen to the leading voices of wine blogging in Europe while visiting huge-investment wineries with long history; to make new friends in other wineries as was the case with Bodegas Miguel Merino and also to taste top ranked wines from Spain, Portugal and several other countries.
I am waiting for the next year edition and I would really like we could host it in Portugal. We have to promote wine blogging in Portugal and that would be an excellent opportunity.
Beggining of the Harvest
Finally just a short note to let you know we will start the harvest next Monday September 6th, in Quinta da Alegria and Quinta das Olgas. It had rained during last two days and we think Monday is a good moment to pick-up. In our main vineyard, Quinta Vale D’Agodinho, we will probably start on the week of September 15th.
Have fun,
Óscar Quevedo
